Tokyo Summer Games Expert: Difficult Olympic move for training planning

Berlin (dpa) – In fact, Olympic debutants are now reportedly in great shape – but the postponement of the games to next year is not only reflected in the performance.

The fact that the climax for many athletes, which only occurs every four years, has been postponed is serious for training planning and life planning in general. That said the head of the Institute for Applied Training Sciences (IAT), Ulf Tippelt, in a conversation with the German news agency.

It is difficult to keep motivation for training permanently high, Tippelt said in view of the long lack of competition due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the training plans would be implemented by the athletes.

In most sports, competitions would be on the program again. “If the athlete is in good shape and has been built normally, this phase will surely be over and the reconstruction towards Tokyo will begin this fall,” said Tippelt, 57.
