Mexico this Friday received a donation of US $ 3 million from the United States government, through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to help combat the effects of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Assistant Secretary for Health Prevention and Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, reported from the National Palace that the donation was achieved thanks to collaborative efforts with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Christopher Landau.
He said the resources will be used to strengthen the ability to driving of the epidemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 in the country.
“They will also be invested in seroprevalence studies, in local community action, risk communication aimed at specific populations and analysis attention to the mobility of migrant populations on the US-Mexico border, ”said the official on his social networks.
In addition, he said that Dr. Maria Julia Marinissen, a health ambassador to the United States and an expert on health and safety issues, had a important role in obtaining the donation.
In turn, the ambassador Landau expressed through his Twitter account that he was pleased to announce the investment, from the government headed by Donald Trump, to collaborate with the Mexican government, and thus strengthen the response to the coronavirus.
He stressed that the funds will be used to study the prevalence of the virus in Mexico, increase epidemiological surveillance, improve risk communication and study mobility in border populations.
