Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) is pushing for new activities to curb irregular migration, especially on the Balkan route. At a conference of neighboring countries in Vienna, he warned against the increase in the number of refugees.
“Migration on the Western Balkan route is increasing and the state of disorderly migration must end,” he told “Bild” newspaper. The states along the route should work closely together in all areas.
Seehofer is one of representatives from a total of 18 countries advising since Wednesday how to end illegal migration to Europe and deepen cooperation. According to Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), it is about border protection, the fight against smuggling, the repatriation of people without a residence permit and faster asylum procedures.
