Los Angeles (USA), August 11 (EFE) .- Kurt Luedtke, Oscar winner for best screenplay adapted for the movie “Out of Africa” ​​(1985), died on Sunday at the age of 80, the Detroit Press reported. free.
Luedtke died in a hospital in Royal Oak (USA), a city located about 20 kilometers north of Detroit (USA), after a long illness, according to his wife.
A journalist for many years on the pages of the Detroit Free Press, Luedtke (Grand Rapids, USA, 1939) tried his luck as a Hollywood screenwriter in the late 1970s.
He didn’t have a very long career on the big screen, but he took advantage of each of his credits.
The big hit came with “Out of Africa”, a romantic drama starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford under the direction of Sydney Pollack and with which Luedtke won the best adapted script for his work from the eponymous book by Karen. Blixen.
In total, “Out of Africa” ​​won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Soundtrack.
“Out of Africa” ​​was only his second film, but with his first work, “Absence of Malice” (1981), he has touched the sky since he was nominated for an Oscar for best script.
His third and final script was for the film “Random Hearts” (1999), which, like the other two previous films, directed Sydney Pollack, Luedtke’s faithful collaborator in his three cinematographic works.
“Kurt is one of the fastest and most inexhaustible writers I’ve ever worked with,” said the filmmaker in 1981, as the Los Angeles Times recalls.
“We had to make big changes overnight and he did that,” she added.
