More than 1.1 million people are called to the polls this Monday in Trinidad and Tobago to elect a new government for the next 5 years in what is known as the Republic of the Twin Islands, an oil-rich country that has gained independence of the United Kingdom in 1962.
The lines could already be observed long before the polling stations opened for the elections, the results of which are not expected until the early hours of Tuesday and in which some citizens opted for early voting to avoid waiting, especially in Puerto Spain, capital and most populous nucleus of this territory, is part of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
