Lebanon.- Lebanese security forces confirm 175 wounded among their troops during protests on Saturday


Lebanese security forces confirmed that 175 of its troops were injured during Saturday’s protests in the capital, Beirut, against the government’s negligence and corruption after the big explosion that devastated much of the city on Tuesday.

There are about 105 soldiers and 70 members of the Lebanese Police’s Internal Security Force (FSI), who were “attacked with stones, fireworks and Molotov cocktails”, according to an Army note collected by the newspaper ‘L’Orient du Jour’ .

“Several hooligans and people who attacked public and private property, in addition, in particular, several ministries”, denounced the Army.

To the wounded we must add a deceased, an ISF agent who died at the Le Gray hotel in the city center. Police are investigating whether he was thrown into the elevator shaft, as some witnesses said. Twenty people were arrested for his death, “13 of whom used drugs,” according to a statement from security forces.

The demonstration resulted in an additional total of more than 700 injured.
