The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, paid this Sunday the tribute that is held daily, at 12 noon, to the fatal victims of COVID-19; as well as recognition to health personnel facing the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Through his social networks, López Obrador released the video where, accompanied by a Mexican Army officer, he performed this act in the Central Courtyard, of the National Palace.

“I’m working at the National Palace, at the office, but I have to go down to the Central Courtyard to honor those who lost their lives due to the pandemic, send a loving, fraternal and supportive hug to your families and encourage doctors, nurses who, despite being tired, continue to save lives ”, said the Mexican president.

López Obrador referred to the 50,000 deaths caused by COVID-19 in the country, expressed his condolences and guaranteed that they acted with professionalism.

“Everything that is happening is sad, more than 50 thousand people lost their lives, it hurts a lot, I mean it, but we have acted professionally, no one was left without medical care, Hospital capacity has not been exceeded because we have been working since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been working for everyone to be served and we will continue to do so ”, he guaranteed.

The Mexican president pointed out that there is a budget to face the pandemic, since it was saved because there is no more government waste. He also informed that this year around 35 billion pesos were spent by COVID-19 and that around 50 thousand workers in the health sector were hired.

“We are working every day, I believe that this is the best tribute that we can pay to those who have been ahead of us for this tremendous COVID pandemic, and also for other diseases. We will continue to improve the public health system, so that we have beds, ventilators, equipment, specialist doctors, nurses to guarantee people’s right to health.

It is a commitment we have made and we will keep it, the commitments are fulfilled. Fortunately we have a budget, because we save, because there is no more corruption, there is no waste, in the government there is republican austerity, we have a budget this year to face the pandemic, we exercise around 35 billion pesos, we hire about 50 thousand health workers ”, Guaranteed the president.

López Obrador announced last Monday that his government will pay a “permanent” tribute to the people who died of COVID-19, as well as to all Health personnel, of whom he said, he does not give up.

An initiative will be presented, a tribute to all those who lost their lives due to the pandemic, and those who are struggling to progress and those who work tirelessly to save lives, will maintain a permanent homage, both of memory, of respect for those who lost their lives and of solidarity with the families of the victims and thanks from nurses, doctors to all health personnel who do not give up, who continue to dedicate themselves to saving lives“The Mexican president said.

López Obrador explained that the tribute is that every day, at noon, in all public offices a minute of silence is followed by applause. The tribute is already being carried out in the Mexican Army, but he asks for it to be replicated across the country.
