While Kanye West and Beyoncé have reportedly known each other since actress and icon ‘Lemonade’ dated her current husband Jay-Z in 2003, the first major public event the two were involved in took place in 2009 during the now infamous incident in Yeezy hijacked. Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech in 2009 and stated that it was Beyoncé, not T.Swift, who deserved the award. While Kanye may have viewed it as a supportive gesture, Beyoncé’s response said otherwise.
But the major conflict between Beyoncé and Kanye (and thus their partners) came to a head publicly after Bey and Jay-Z failed to appear at Yeezy and Kim Kardashian West’s wedding. Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, pointed out at the time that all parties “assumed” [Beyoncé and Jay-Z] worked “and that their absence” was the last thing anyone thought “but what apparently followed was a recurring estrangement between the two power couples.
Despite Kris’ early assurances, Kanye later sang a completely different tune. In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God from May 2018 about The breakfast club, Yeezy finally expressed dismay at the convenience. “I was hurt because they didn’t come to the wedding,” he admitted. “I understand him [Jay] I’ve been through a few things, but when it’s a family you don’t miss a wedding. He also commented on the Knowles-Carters’ lack of support after Kim was robbed at gunpoint Entertainment tonight.
