“Now there is the possibility of playing in front of several hundred people – that’s how I started, only that they are more distant,” said the 64-year-old player from “Abendzeitung” from Munich. Schneider is planning his first concert in Leipzig this Thursday after the cancellations due to the corona crisis.
In mid-May, Schneider said in a video message on his Facebook page that he would not reappear until “when all freedoms are back”. Otherwise, it is not possible. “I have to stay consistent,” he said at the time.
Now he said in the interview, “The next two or three years are going to be messy for now. But I decided to do solo shows – but not in front of cars.” The musician does not see a return to previous concerts: “This proximity that jazz music brings when you play in a small club or somewhere in a confined space: it’s over, for a long, long time.”
In the coming weeks, he plans a series of new appearances, among others in Bayreuth (August 7), in the courtyard of the German Museum in Munich (August 9 and 10), in Böblingen (August 19) or in Cologne (August 21).
