Change of leadership at the top of American automaker Ford: Jim Hackett has resigned and a namesake will join him from October – Jim Farley. The reason: the automaker is going through a deep crisis.

As of October 1, top manager Jim Farley (58), currently responsible for day-to-day activities on the board, has been promoted to his successor.

The personnel change shows just how difficult Ford still is with the shift in the auto industry from classic sheet metal bending to future technologies such as autonomous driving and electromobility. The group is undergoing deep restructuring.
Hackett actually started out as a great modernizer. His predecessor, Mark Fields, had also left the first post after just three years.
