First new entry for Gladbach: Hannes Wolf comes from Leipzig

Mönchengladbach (dpa) – Bundesliga football club Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed their dream player Hannes Wolf from league rival RB Leipzig.

Both clubs confirmed this after “Salzburger Nachrichten” announced the change for the first time. Wolf, who is still under contract in Leipzig until 2024, will be on loan for one year with an option to purchase later.

According to information from the German press agency, the option to buy becomes mandatory as soon as Wolf has completed a certain number of games. The rent is 1.5 million euros, an additional payment of 9.5 million euros is due for a purchase. Leipzig are said to have almost recouped the € 12million transfer fee paid to Salzburg a year ago.

“Hannes is a versatile player who has already worked with our coach Marco Rose in Salzburg and who will improve our attacking opportunities,” said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. “Unfortunately, he was unable to play many games last season due to a prolonged injury at RB Leipzig. We are delighted that he has now chosen Borussia,” Eberl said.

The 21-year-old wolf, who moved to Leipzig for twelve million euros in 2019, has had no luck and has only played five Bundesliga games so far. Borussia coach Rose has known Wolf from his junior years in Salzburg, where they won the Youth League and other titles together.
