In the second quarter of the corona pandemic, Deutsche Post increased its sales and profits – thanks to the flood of packages triggered by booming e-commerce. “People were ordering online as they usually did before Christmas,” said Melanie Kreis, CFO.
Group-wide revenue increased by around 3% to nearly € 16 billion. Profit attributable to shareholders amounted to 525 million euros after 458 million euros the previous year. In both cases, analysts expected less.
Deutsche Post: the parcel and express sector is booming
Things went well for La Poste during the quarter, particularly in the parcels and express divisions. In the urgent shipments sector, the group has again shown growth in Asia – and there especially in China – since the middle of the quarter, Kreis said.
La Poste also continued its rapid growth in the parcel sector in Germany. The retail sector has suffered from authorities’ demands to contain the pandemic, with more and more consumers ordering their products online.
The group had already released a new forecast and key data in July. The group slightly exceeded preliminary earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT). Operating profit rose nearly 19 percent to 912 million euros.
