Critérium du Dauphiné: mandatory mask for spectators

CYCLING – The use of a sanitary mask will be compulsory for the spectators of the Critérium du Dauphiné that begins on Wednesday 12 August from Clermont-Ferrand, we learned this Tuesday from the prefectures of the crossed departments.

The cycling race, presented as a dress rehearsal for the Tour de France, will run successively through the roads of Puy-de-Dôme, Loire, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie.

The prefect of the Loire, Evence Richard, said that she had taken this measure “at the request of ASO, organizer of the Critérium du Dauphiné”. “The health situation remains fragile in the Loire, where the spread of the virus is still active,” he said.

Just among the five departments affected, Savoy has yet to take action in this direction. But “the decree is being studied and signed,” we told the prefecture.

The Dauphiné, the first race organized by ASO since the end of the closure, has adopted the main lines of the system that will be the rule during the next Tour de France (August 29 to September 20) organized by the same company.

“Almost a true copy” of the Tour de France

“It’s almost a carbon copy, even if the event sizes are different,” Pierre-Yves Thouaut, Tour deputy director, told AFP. “We are setting up a sanctuary bubble for the race.”

Therefore, access to the team’s bus parking lots is prohibited to the media and limited only to members of this bubble (runners, management and some officials and members of the organization). Binding measures have also been taken for the accommodation and catering of the various training courses.

For the public, the instructions are reflected in particular in the absence of selfies and autographs, common in cycling races, and the access restrictions at the start and finish of a stage.

At the end of the month, the Tour de France could also see its spectators having to wear the mask. While waiting for his big start in Nice, the event director, Christian Prudhomme, called for the use of the mask, whatever happens between now and then:

“Apart from the departure, the arrivals and the passes where there will be filtered (from the public, Editor’s note), the rest is life in a way. So I ask people to wear masks. If you like the Tour and champions, when you are on the Tour side of the route, you wear masks. And not only in the places where it will be mandatory (in departures and arrivals) where we will make sure that it is respected ”, he said this Tuesday. comments reported by Good Morning.
