Argentina confirmed on Thursday a total of 7,513 cases of COVID-19, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic and 147 deaths due to the disease, according to the most recent data provided by the country’s Ministry of Health.
With these new numbers, Argentina already accounts for 228,195 positives and 4,251 deaths, according to data collected by the Argentine news agency Télam.
Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, 85.6%, 6,433 people, correspond to the city and province of Buenos Aires, the epicenter of the pandemic in the Latin American country.
In addition, 99,852 people have been cured of COVID-19 in Argentina in total, while 1,245 people remain hospitalized in intensive care units, which reach an occupancy rate of 56.6% in the country and 66.5%. percent in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA).
Meanwhile, the Argentine Ministry of Health announced the expansion of the definition of infected with coronavirus, which now also includes those who show symptoms and live with people already infected with COVID-19 – confirmed by PCR – and in areas where there is community spread.
The secretary of Access to Health in Argentina, Carla Vizzoti, said that it is “expected” that there will be an increase in the confirmation of positive diagnoses in the coming days due to the change in modality. In addition, he argued that each jurisdiction will be able to decide “where and when it will be implemented”.
