The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, said on Tuesday that “this story that the Amazon is burning is a lie” and complained about the harsh criticism of the international community to the management of his government in terms of policy and environmental preservation.

“This story that the Amazon is on fire is a lie and we have to fight with real numbers, which is what we are doing in Brazil,” said the Brazilian president during the II Presidential Summit of the Amazon, held virtually, due to the pandemic COVID-19, to review the advances of the Letícia Pact, signed last September.
