Comedian Fips Asmussen has passed away. Born in Hamburg, he has been one of Germany’s best-known solo artists since the 1970s. He died on Sunday, his partner told the German press agency on Tuesday.
Asmussen was 82 years old. His jokes filled the evenings on stage, books, music tapes, records and CDs. 7.5 million records alone have been sold. His gags often got to the point quickly, like this: “I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and said, ‘I don’t know you, but I’ll shave you anyway.’“ Because the sayings were so catchy. , they often went in the vernacular.
Asmussen ditched his sailor outfit as a brand over the years. Even in old age, the wild, curly hair and North German accent have remained his hallmarks.
Asmussen originally worked in advertising. At the end of the 60s, he bought the cabaret bar “Violette Zwiebel” in Hamburg. There he was the host and entertained the audience. It was the start of a great career on stage. With stars like Roy Black and Heino, he appeared in German clubs in the United States. Asmussen last lived in Querfurt in Saxony-Anhalt. The newspaper “Bild” first reported on Asmussen’s death.
