BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – More and more air cargo is handled at Berlin Tegel and Schönefeld airports. Nearly 50,000 tonnes of cargo passed through airports last year, five percent more than the year before, according to information from the airport company. 40,000 tonnes alone were handled as additional cargo on passenger planes at Tegel airport, an increase of 6%.
One of the reasons for this growth is the increase in online commerce. Discount battles like Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the United States are also visible in Berlin, the airport company said. Courier and express services in Berlin depart mainly from Schönefeld, where 9,300 tonnes of freight were loaded, three percent more than the previous year.
